Nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards have been obtained for the films “House of Gucci” and “The Power of the Dog.”
The television series ‘Succession’ and ‘Ted Lasso,’ both of which received five nominations, received the most nominations overall.
The Power of the Dog, House of Gucci, and The Power of the Dog have each garnered three nominations for best motion picture at the 2022 SAG Awards.
In addition, both Succession and Ted Lasso were nominated for five Emmy Awards, making them two of the most nominated programs in television history.
Some other movies, such as Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up, House of Gucci, and King Richard were nominated for best cast as well; however, The Power of the Dog did not make the cut.
Only three parts were nominated for Academy Awards this year, despite the fact that Caitriona Balfe (Belfast), Lady Gaga (Don’t Look Up), and Jared Leto (House of Gucci) all had star-studded casts. In the family dramas CODA and King Richard, Will Smith and Troy Kotsur were both nominated for Best Actor awards for their respective performances.
The best cast award is the SAG-AFTRA counterpart to the Academy Award for best motion picture. Nomadland, which won the Academy Award for best picture in 2018, and Green Book, which won the award in 2019, are two recent examples of films that have won the Academy Award for best picture without being nominated for best actor or actress. In addition to winning the SAG Award for outstanding cast, Parasite was also nominated for the Academy Award for best picture in 2020, making it the most recent film to achieve this distinction.
There are also nominations for HBO’s anthology series The White Lotus and Netflix’s Squid Game, which is the first non-English-language and first Korean-language series to receive a nomination. Kate Winslet and Evan Peters are nominated for Mare of Easttown, Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, Hannah Waddingham, and Jean Smart are nominated for Hacks, and there are also nominations for HBO’s anthology series The White Lotus and Netflix’s Squi Director who has been nominated for an Oscar
All five of these shows, as well as Squid Game and The Handmaid’s Tale, are up for an Emmy in the category of best drama ensemble. Only Murders in the Building will compete for the award for outstanding comedy series ensemble, along with The Great, Hacks, The Kominsky Method, and Ted Lasso, which will be presented by the Television Critics Association.
Earlier this week, both Dopesick’s Rosario Dawson and Tic Tac Toe’s Vanessa Hudgens announced through Instagram Live that they had been nominated for Academy Awards.
In light of this year’s COVID-19 outbreak, the SAG Awards were aired live on TNT and TBS from Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar on Sunday, February 27 at 8 pm EDT/5 p.m. PST on Sunday, February 27 at 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PST this year.
The winner of this year’s Life Achievement Award, Helen Mirren, has already been named as the actress and producer.
